How to play the ladder game

Pick 2 to 10 players, then type in everyone's names and the outcomes — lunch spots, prizes, chores, anything. Hit "Build the ladder" and a random ladder appears. Tap a name at the top and a colored line travels down, crossing every rung it meets, until it lands on that player's result. In a hurry? "Reveal all results" shows everyone's outcome at once.

What is a ladder game (amidakuji)?

The ladder game is a classic way to draw lots. It's called amidakuji in Japan and sadaritagi in Korea, and it's also known as "ghost leg." Vertical lines connect each player to an outcome, and random horizontal rungs shuffle who ends up where. Because every path follows the same rule — go down, and cross every rung you hit — each player always lands on a different result. No ties, no duplicates.

Is it really random and fair?

Yes. Rungs are placed with a fresh random seed every time, and two rungs never touch on the same row, so paths can't collide or break. Nobody — not even the person who set it up — knows which name leads to which outcome until the ladder is drawn. That makes it a random picker everyone can trust.

Ways to use it

Decide where to go for lunch, who buys the coffee, who does the dishes, the order of presentations, who goes first in a board game, Secret Santa pairings, or team assignments. It's a more fun alternative to drawing straws or a spin-the-wheel name picker, and the one-tap presets fill in the most common situations instantly.

FAQ

Is the ladder game fair?

Yes. The rungs are placed randomly for every ladder and paths can never overlap, so no one can predict or rig the result.

How do I draw lots with it?

Set the number of players, enter names and outcomes, and tap "Build the ladder." Then tap each name to reveal where it lands, or tap "Reveal all results."

Can I make a new ladder with the same players?

Tap "New ladder" to keep your players and outcomes but generate a brand-new random ladder.

Can I share the same ladder with friends?

Tap "Share" to copy a link. Anyone who opens it sees the exact same ladder — names, outcomes and rungs included.

How many players can join?

Anywhere from 2 to 10 players.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It's built for tapping, and the ladder automatically fits any screen size.
